Magic Observations of the Unidentified Γ-ray Source Tev
نویسندگان
چکیده
We observed the first known very high energy (VHE) γ-ray emitting unidentified source, TeV J2032+4130, for 94 hours with the MAGIC telescope. The source was detected with a significance of 5.6σ. The flux, position, and angular extension are compatible with the previous ones measured by the HEGRA telescope system five years ago. The integral flux amounts to (4.5±0.3stat±0.35sys)×10 −13 ph cm s above 1 TeV. The source energy spectrum, obtained with the lowest energy threshold to date, is compatible with a single power law with a hard photon index of Γ=-2.0±0.3stat±0.2sys. Scientific Highlights from Observations of Active Galactic Nuclei with the MAGIC Telescope
Since 2004, the MAGIC γ-ray telescope has newly discovered 6 TeV blazars. The total set of 13 MAGIC-detected active galactic nuclei includes well-studied objects at other wavelengths like Markarian 501 and the giant radio galaxy M 87, but also the distant the flat-spectrum radio quasar 3C 279, and the newly discovered TeV γ-ray emitter S5 0716+71. In addition, also long-term and multi-wavelengt...
متن کاملVery-high-energy γ-ray observations of novae and dwarf novae with the MAGIC telescopes
Context. In the last five years the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) instrument detected GeV γ-ray emission from five novae. The GeV emission can be interpreted in terms of an inverse Compton process of electrons accelerated in a shock. In this case it is expected that protons in the same conditions can be accelerated to much higher energies. Consequently they may produce a second component in ...
متن کاملTHE POPULATION OF RADIO SOURCES IN THE FIELD OF THE UNIDENTIFIED γ-RAY SOURCE TeV J2032+4130
TeV J2032+4130 is the first extended very high energy gamma-ray source, which has remained enigmatic since its discovery, due to the lack of identification. We report here deep radio observations covering the TeV J2032+4130 field and revealing for the first time an extended and diffuse radio emission, as well as a remarkable population of compact radio sources. Some of these radio sources are i...
متن کاملAGN Observations in the GeV / TeV Energy Range with the MAGIC
MAGIC currently is the largest imaging atmospheric Cerenkov telescope world-wide. Since 2004, γ-ray emission from several active galactic nuclei in the GeV/TeV energy range has been detected, some of which were newly discovered as very-high energy γ-ray sources. The γ-rays are assumed to originate from particle acceleration processes in the AGN jets. We give an overview of the AGN observed and ...
متن کاملX - ray to TeV γ - ray broad band emitter
Within the sample of unidentified γ-ray sources found in the first survey of our Galaxy, AX J1838.0-065 is particularly interesting due to its likely physical association with the newly discovered TeV source HESS J1837-069 (Aharonian et al. 2005a). In fact, its position coincides with the center of gravity of the TeV emission and therefore has been suggested by Aharonian et al. (2005a) as the m...
